What are the Blood Pressure targets to aim for?

Blood pressure targets are based on age and the presence of Hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). We aim for a target of 130/80 after treatment. For older patients, the target is usually 140/80. Lifestyle intervention is very important, patients should be aiming for 150 to 300 minutes a week of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 to 150 minutes a week of vigorous intensity physical activity. Diet is another component. A heart healthy diet consist of beneficial foods such as vegetable, fruits, cereals, nuts, legumes and fish. Lastly, we should restrict our intake of unhealthy foods to no more than 2 servings a week, such as processed meats and sausages, and not to take more than 5g of salt per day. On top of healthy diet and physical activity, we should be having 6 hours of sleep a day, stop smoking, and also aim for a BMI of less than 23.
