On 12th October 2024, an exclusive event was held where we dived into the journey to better gut health. We brought together experts from the Singapore General Hospital and NovaHealth TCM to share valuable insights on gut health from both Western and traditional medicine perspectives. About the speakers
Associate Professor Andrew Ong Ming Liang is a Senior Consultant at Singapore General Hospital, specialising in Gastroenterology. His interests include Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Gastro-oesophageal reflux, and gastrointestinal motility disorders. He trained in integrating medical, dietary, and psychological therapies for IBS in Melbourne, Australia, and leads SGH's integrated GastroPsych IBS clinic.
A/Prof Ong will discuss gut health and how symptoms can be related to diet and stress. He will focus on IBS, covering its diagnosis, alarming symptoms to watch for, and the role of dietary and psychological therapies. He will also share over-the-counteroptions like prebiotics, probiotics, and cultured milk drinks that patients can try.
Dr. Diana Goh is an experienced physician with 15 years in the field. She lectures at the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she educates future practitioners. Dr. Goh holds a Bachelor's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Specialist Diploma in Nutrition and Sports Science, and is certified in Paediatric Massage.
She will discuss how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) addresses common gut issues through personalised diagnosis, targeted treatment methods, and healthy dietary recommendations, complemented by simple teas and herbal recipes to boost digestion.
