Sherry Soon was 19 when she was diagnosed with vasculitis, an autoimmune disease that left her battling painful ulcers, rashes, and a right foot drop. The hospital stays and long stretches of bed rest became a regular part of her life, and she couldn’t chase her dream of becoming a teacher. It was this struggle with an invisible illness that opened her eyes to the challenges faced by others living with misunderstood disabilities.
In 2017, Sherry founded Be Kind SG - a volunteer-led group dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities.
What began as a small initiative has now grown into a registered charity, allowing for a greater reach and impact. Under her leadership as Executive Director, Be Kind SG aims to create a safe, inclusive space filled with toys, educational resources, and an indoor playground.
This envisioned space serves as a haven where children with special needs engage and connect with their peers, while offering caregivers a much-needed support network.
Sherry has also launched Autoimmune Diseases SG - a support group providing a sense of community for nearly 400 members dealing with autoimmune conditions, specifically those under the care of rheumatologists and neurologists. Through this group, individuals battling similar diseases find understanding, guidance, and strength in shared experiences.
Sherry’s mission is to foster a society that embraces empathy, inclusion, and compassion.
She is dedicated to building a world where differences are celebrated and noone has to walk their journey alone. Today, Sherry puts her foot forward by committing to creating a brighter, kinder, and more inclusive future for all.
