Delicious 7-day detox menu
We've shown you seven tasty ways to detox on local foods. Now you might like to add these dishes to your menu. Here are seven different detox-friendly menu options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks – ideal for the next seven days.
1. Detox breakfasts
- Healthy and easy to make, these breakfasts are a great start to the day.
- Oatmeal porridge cooked with unsweetened almond milk and mashed banana. Topped with sunflower seeds or crushed flaxseeds
- Smoothie made with nut milk, mango and goji berries.
- Homemade tuna spread (in a blender, combine tinned tuna in water with avocado) and vegetable sticks.
- Chia seeds cooked with almond milk, topped with fresh berries.
- Power shake made with hazelnut milk, half an avocado and raw cacao
- Sweet potato congee made with wholegrain or brown rice, sweet potato and a slice of ginger.
- Energising green juice. Throw half a lemon (peeled), a handful of spinach, watercress, an apple and a big piece of young ginger into a blender. Blitz with water and enjoy. Tip: use a green apple instead of red – the latter tends to be mushy).
2. Detox lunches
The beauty of these lunches is that they can be made in advance and taken to work as a packed lunch.
- Chicken stir-fried with bok choy and garlic
- Creamed vegetable soup made with homemade stock blended with steamed pumpkin, coriander and kai lan. Tip: thicken the soup by blending in some cooked brown rice.
- Blanched rice noodles tossed in a little sesame oil and gluten-free soya sauce. Top the noodles with shredded raw carrots and cucumbers, blanched bok choy and bean sprouts, cooked prawns, thinly sliced pan-fried firm tofu, and sesame seeds.
- Salad made with lean organic chicken, celery, apples, shredded carrots, crushed almonds, avocado and rocket. Make a simple dressing with lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil.
- Rice salad made with cooked brown rice, tofu cubes, blanched broccoli florets and tuna chunks. Make a dressing with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and lemon zest.
- Simmer organic chicken, leeks, onions, garlic, celery and carrot for a homemade broth.
- Griddled chicken with bean salad. Boil and mix edamame beans, kidney beans and butter beans together.
3. Detox dinners
These light dinners will ensure that you have a tasty end to your day.
- Foil-baked or steamed salmon or cod with stir-fried asparagus, red and yellow pepper strips. Serve on a bed of brown rice.
- Seafood salad made with prawns, crabmeat, avocado, mango, celery and apple in lettuce cups.
- Leafy vegetables, carrots and mushrooms stir-fried with chicken or seafood, served with brown rice.
- Three-bean salad made with edamame, kidney and butter beans with tuna.
- Shredded poached chicken with green mango, bean sprouts and chilli.
- Foil-baked salmon, served with carrot and orange salad with caraway seeds.
- Leafy vegetables, carrots and mushrooms stir-fried with chicken or seafood, served with brown rice.
4. Detox snacks
- One whole fresh coconut, chopped.
- Raw unsalted nuts (not peanuts).
- A handful of vegetable sticks, such as carrot and celery.
- Almond, cashew or sesame butter with apple slices or celery sticks.
- Hummus with vegetables.
- Fruit salad (mixed fruit dressed with a little orange juice).
- Rice cakes with homemade guacamole.
